The Brussels Underground stations have been decorated by Belgian artists. This photograph shows late night commuters rushing for the one of the late trains in one of the undergrounds depicting a cityscape painted by a contemporary Belgian artist (unknown). Many of the stations have such artworks in them, making an underground trip just that little bit more interesting- unless you're dashing for a train.
The first in a series of Belgian "street" art. The streets of Brussels have works of art on the sides of buildings which are not classed as graffiti, but show scenes from famous Belgian cartoonists and the subway art, 54 Belgian artists.
thanks Michael. I ummed and ahhed about whether to take the photo at a more direct angle but eventually decided that this angle was more interesting. Thanks Wish I knew who the artist was so as I could give him or her some credit
Are these at every station? I must say I never noticed one at either Bruxelles Midi or Liége Guillemins when I was passing (I only stopped at these two stations) but, as you say, I was engaged in quite a rush for another train on 3 of the four occasions on which I might have spotted them, and the fourth I was walking backwards helping someone else with their sizeable carrier of luggage.
As ever, the colour in your photograph is nice, gives a nice warm atmosphere.
thanks for the comment. The "Eyewiteness" travel guide on Brussels states that some 58 metro stations have been decorated with a combination of murals, sculptures and architecture by 54 Belgian artists. I can't remember which one this is. Artists include Dotremont and Aechinsky, the surrealist Paul Delvaux, Victor Horta and Pol Bury.
It's wonderful that they did this in the Belgian underground stations. We have a similar program here in Phoenix to decorate the noise-dampening walls that surround the freeways. I really like the angle that you used for this picture. It pulls us into the artwork and keeps our interest there. Very nicely done.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
